chicago was a chaos after the nuclear war happened. after that happen, they rebuild it. they learn based on “experience is the best teacher”. with that, chicago is separated by five faction. they are amiry, candor, abnegation, dauntless and erudite. at the age of 16, each person will have a simulation test to know what’s the best faction for them although the result is not to be agreed. each people can still choose their own faction.

beatrice prior, a girl from the abnegation faction, faced a trouble at the simulation test. beatrice has a dominant of three faction which made her a divergent. being divergent is a danger so that she has to hide the test result and her test instructor make her choose abnegation as the result.

with three dominant faction in her, which is dauntless, abnegation and erudite, she decided to choose being a dauntless. although its hard for her to left her parents and abnegation. life in abnegation is all simple and they always put people before them. this makes beatrice brother, caleb, left abnegation and choose erudite. erudite has always been the faction who wants to tear down abnegation.

after leaving abnegation, she has to faced the initiation step in dauntless. the initiation step in dauntless isn’t easy. they have to jump onto a moving train and jump from a high building. dauntless is all about physical strength. from the 20 person who joined the dauntless initiation test, only 10 of them that passed. the rest will be factionless which make them the lowest social state.

being a dauntless, beatrice changed her name into tris. she turned into someone so brave and tough. unfortunately, being tough could make her known as a divergent. with people who know her secret, they all help her through all initiation step so that she looked normal.

behind all of this, there’s a big project about tearing down the abnegation faction. project who involve all the member of dauntless without them knowing at all.
